Rome - The smart cards CNIPA (National Centre for Informatics in Public Administration) has launched an initiative to assess, as part of the AIDC technologies (Automatic Identification and Data Capture), the feasibility of RFID projects aimed at improving the Public Administration (PA ).
To this end it set up a study group aimed at defining the various technical and regulatory aspects concerning the use of this technology and to define the experimental initiatives in this field.
RFID is not currently widespread in the PA, but its potential uses may be particularly significant, for instance for document management, for the management of assets and cultural and food traceability in public health facilities.
The end of contactless cards the CNIPA, then, in a country where there are the companies specialized in the field of RFID that operate at an international level, then, is to promote the use of these technologies in the PA through the enhancement of national wealth of knowledge that characterizes companies in the sector and to guide and support PAs in knowledge and in the use of RFID. ON this basis, in the first half of 2006 will host a conference to study during which they will present the results of the hearings.
